Bangladesh’s fielding took a nosedive in New Zealand series and here in Hyderabad it left them in a position of embarrassing defeat on the very first day of the historic Test against India.
After missing to make some half-chances to full chances and missing one catch at slip, what was the most horrible blunder was the mistake of inflicting a run-out dismissal on Murali Vijay who was on 35 then. He went on to score a century later and set the tune of a big total. Mehedi Hasan Miraj was the fielder whose butter finger caused the blunder when he got Vijay at the half-way mark of the crease.
At the end, this mistake left Bangladesh ruing.
“They could be five or six down had we took the chance,” said fast bowler Taskin Ahmed. “But it’s the part of the game. So we are not thinking about that. We want to amend the mistakes on the second day.”
Taskin said it would be good had they could restrict India to 400 or 450 but given the strong tail of India, he knows it would be a tough job.
“It’s a good wicket so it’s tough but we will give them a shot to restrict them to 400 or 450 and if we can do so, the game will be open for all.”
Taskin and the other bowlers knew that if Virat Kohli get set he would be dangerous for them. So there is a plan to stop him but Kohli simply ruined the game plan to head for a big one.
Taskin however didn’t reveal what game plan they brought up against Kohli.
“We knew if we can land the ball in a certain area, he will be tamed. But he played well and waited for loose ball. If you watch, you will see, he never goes after the good balls rather he waited for the bad balls and punished it.”
The lanky fast bowler also revealed that they were not good enough to use their short balls well.
“We have the plan to unsettle them with a barrage of short balls. But we couldn’t execute the plan. Hopefully we’ll comeback strongly in the next day and keep the game alive.”
