GAZIPUR: State minister for labour and employment Md Mujibul Haque yesterday distributed Tk 1.16 crore among families of 72 workers who were killed and injured in a fire at Tampaco Foils Limited in Gazipur in September last year, reports BSS.
The massive fire left 32 workers dead and 40 injured.
"The government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is committed to protecting the rights of workers," said the state minister while distributing cheques among the families of the Tempaco fire victims here.
Mujibul handed over a cheque for Tk 3 lakh to each family of 32 workers who were killed in the fire. Of the 40 injured workers, 30 families got Tk 50,000 each while 10 were given Tk 35, 000 each.
The Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments has already given an injured worker Tk 50,000. Nine other injured workers received Tk 15,000 each for treatment purposes.
Member of parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of youth and sports Alhaj Md Zahid Ahsan Russell MP, labour and employment ministry secretary Mikail Shiper, deputy commissioner of Gazipur SM Alam, Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation director general Dr AMM Anisul Awal also spoke on the occasion.
Inspector general of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments presided over the programme.
