State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan yesterday observed that leaders of the developed countries must come forward to address global inequalities agreeing with the developing countries in Addis Ababa conference, reports UNB.
He made the remarks while chairing a session at the UN Financing for Development Conference being held in Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, according to a release of Equity BD.
The Bangladesh state minister chaired the session titled ‘Ensuring Policy Coherence and an Enabling Environment at all Levels for Sustainable Development’.
Noted economist Jeffry Sachs, ILO chief Guy Rider and ESCAP Executive Director Dr Shamsad Akhter, among others, spoke at the session.
Mentioning that the post-2015 sustainable development goals (SDG) are challenging, Jeffry Sachs emphasised three issues that include sustainability of environmental protection, secondary education and primary healthcare. He also said the rich should come forward to finance the poverty eradication. On Tuesday, Bangladeshi civil society delegates, including Asgar Ali Sabri and Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, participated in a side event of the conference arranged by OECD on their BEPS (Base Erosion and Profit Shifting) process.
The four-day third international conference will end today.
