Seven people were killed in separate road accidents in Brahmanbaria, Dinajpur and Nilphamari districts yesterday. In Brahmanbaria, five people were killed when a pick-up van rammed a CNG run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Soshoi in Bijoynagar upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. Highway police said the accident took place in the area around 4:30 pm when the Dhaka-bound pick-up van from Sylhet hit the Madhabpur-bound CNG-run auto-rickshaw, leaving four CNG passengers dead on the spot and another injured. The injured was rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered the bodies and sent those to sadar hospital morgue.
BSS adds: Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur and Syedpur upazila of Nilphamari yesterday.
An unidentified youth aged about 25 was killed at Bot Toli Kumarpara point on Dinajpur-Thakurgaon highway in Birganj upazila yesterday afternoon as a Panchagarh bound bus hit him while he was crossing the road.
In another accident, a teacher was seriously injured after being hit by a bus while he was getting on a running BRTC passenger bus at Syedpur Bus Terminal in Syedpur of Nilphamari yesterday afternoon.
Abdus Samad, lecturer of Goreya College in Thakurgaon, succumbed to his injuries at around 4 pm on his way to a hospital.
