During the Spring Festival golden week, Yunnan Province received a record high of nearly 23 million tourists, demonstrating the great attractions of ethnic cultural tourism and high-speed rail tourism.
Colorful ethnic cultures attracted tourists from all over the country to the province. “Colorful Yunnan deserves the reputation it enjoys,” said He Xiaofeng, a Sichuan tourist. During this Spring Festival holiday, he and his family travelled to many places in Yunnan and experienced the province’s enormous cultural diversity.
Unlike in previous years, the comfortable and convenient high-speed rail boosted the development of the tourism industry in Kunming, Qujing, Honghe, Wenshan and across the entire province. In particular, the Stone Forest in Kunming, Nine Dragons Waterfalls in Luoping, and the Puzhehei Scenic Resort in Qiubei again were all popular scenic spots during the Spring Festival holiday in Yunnan.
At 11:00AM on February 2, the waiting hall of Kunming South Railway Station was a bustling sight. “A train trip from Guangzhou to Kunming used to take more than 20 hours. With the high-speed rail going into operation, travel time has been reduced by two-thirds, leaving more time for sightseeing,” said Jian Huan, a tourist from Guangdong. He was returning to Jiangmen City, Guangdong after a six-day tour in Kunming, Dali and Lijiang with his wife and child. Jian Huan was so impressed with Yunnan’s natural beauty and friendly people that he is already looking forward to coming back by high-speed rail during the next holiday. “Today, Yunnan is as easily accessible as our nearby cities, so we can often come here for holiday,” a young tourist surnamed Chen from Nanning City, Guangxi Province added.
With the opening of the new high-speed railway, many places in Yunnan Province introduced preferential policies for passengers. Honghe Prefecture issued the “Honghe Prefecture Special Incentive Measures for High-speed Rail Tour Groups.” The scenic spots and hotels in Kunming, Qujing, Diqing, Lincang and other cities and prefectures also provided concessions for tourists holding high-speed railway tickets.
