Lightning strikes kill 10

Ten people were killed and five others injured in lightning strikes in Habiganj, Chapainwabganj, Laxmipur and Pirojpur districts yesterday.
Our Habiganj correspondent reports: Four people were killed and two others injured by lightning strike at Virat village in Ajmiriganj upazila yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Musa Miah, 50, Pritish Shutradhar, 30, Anjit Shutradhar, 45, of Virat village and Prashen Shutradhar, 22, of Takua village in Khaliajuri upazila of Netrakona district.
Police said a thunderbolt struck six people while they were catching fish on a boat in the Kushiara River amid rain around 12 pm, leaving four of them dead on the spot and two injured.
Injured Sohel, 20, and Mohan, 25, were admitted to Ajmiriganj Upazila Health Complex.
On information police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.
Our Chapainawabganj correspondent says: Three farmers were killed and three others were injured as they were struck by lightning at Fatepur union in Nachole upazila yesterday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Masud Rana, 16, of Singroil village in the upazila, Tariqul Islam, 45, of Sarjan village of sadar upazila and Abdur Rahim, 42, of Shibnagar village in Gomostapur upazila.
Fatepur union parishad Chairman Sadir Ahmed said lightning struck five farmers while they were working in a crop field at Singroil village at around 1 pm. They were rushed to Nachole Upazila Health Complex where doctor declared Masud Rana and Tariqul dead. Three other injured Swapan Barman, Zillur Rahman and Abdur Razzaque were admitted to the health complex.
Another farmer Abdur Rahim was killed in separate lightning strike in a field at Fatepur union while he was working there at around 1 pm, said Radhanagar UP Chairman Matiur Rahman In Laxmipur: A streak of lightning hit Qamrul Islam, 12, a class III student of Matirhat Government Primary School and son of Azad Uddin of Uttar Char Kalkini village, at Motirhat river bank under Kamalnagar  upazila yesterday morning while he was going out of his house to bring cattle from nearby field, leaving him dead on the spot, local UP member Mehanid Hassan said.  
In Pirojpur, two people identified as Asim, 35, and Rajib, 32, of Kadamtala village in sadar upazila sustained injuries after being struck by a thunderbolt at Gensa Bazar in the upazila around 3pm, reports UNB.
They were taken to Sadar hospital where doctors declared them dead.
