Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha believed his side got a Test to play in India for the first time in ideal time as the team has become competitive against the top ranked team lately.
He thought winning a ODI series against India back at home was the catalyst to get this Test but urged his players to utilise the opportunity to show the world of their ability.
“Bangladesh is now competing against good teams. Playing well against India in one-dayers was a factor for getting a game here,” he said.
“I think this is the ideal time to play. We are playing good cricket. They showed they can compete at home against England and also in New Zealand.”
Bangladesh are coming off a poor series in New Zealand in which they lost eight matches on the trot. The batsmen were mostly blamed for their inconsistency and sensational collapse from a good position.
The coach however insisted on giving his side more Tests to play as he believed Bangladesh could correct the mistakes they had done in the Test format should they play Test cricket regularly.
“There is a problem but I don’t think it is insecurity. It is probably the concentration factor. We haven’t played five-day cricket for long time, which is another issue. We can only improve by playing more five-day cricket. For the batters to concentrate for a long time and play under pressure, that’s what we need them to expose them to.”
