Bangladesh a lucrative destination for foreign investors

Thomas Tieber, chief executive officer for ASEAN and South Asia at DHL Global Forwarding Inc, shared his views in an exclusive interview with The Independent on the untapped business market of Bangladesh where foreign investors can end up getting rich dividends. 

When asked about future business plan regarding Bangladesh, Tieber said:  “At DHL Global Forwarding, our business thrives on connectivity within and between countries.”
“Therefore, the prospects of greater economic prosperity and connectivity within Bangladesh, as well as its openness to global trade has encouraged us to plan for an expansion of business in the country, a key market for us in the region,” he added. Tieber also said connectivity remains a key area of focus. 
Highlighting infrastructural development initiatives directed towards developing transport routes to help move people and products smoothly and swiftly should be taken, the DHL CEO said ambitious government projects like the Padma Bridge and the Dhaka-Payra rail link are encouraging news. 
When asked about the future plan of DHL in Bangladesh, he came up with really heartening comments saying “I believe Bangladesh’s growing economy will attract new companies to take advantage of the business opportunities available, implying further room for growth in logistics services in the country. With our current presence in Bangladesh, DHL Global Forwarding is well-positioned to take on the growth’’.
When he was inquired about DHL’s position in the competitive market, comparing with Amzon, he quickly replied saying “Innovation is an important part of DHL and over the years, we have been introducing new, state-of-the-art services that have served the unique needs of our customers. We will continue to innovate and offer new logistics solutions for our customers.’’ Tieber has been with the DHL Group for 26 years and has held key management roles in Sales and Marketing and Business Development in Europe and Asia
He oversees DHL Global Forwarding in South Asia - he managed Thailand and established operations in Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
He oversees Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, and other agent operations in ASEAN and South Asia.
