AUST to participate in ‘Formula Hybrid Contest’
Engineering students from the Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) of Bangladesh will participate in the ‘Imperial Society of Innovative Engineers’ Student Formula Hybrid competition’ which is scheduled to be held on February 16-19, 2017, says a press release.  
  The annual competition, and Asia’s largest vehicle challenge, develops interest among engineering students toward alternative power sources.  Students on the Department of Mechanical and Production team from AUST will compete against 74 other teams during the event at the Buddha International Circuit in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India.  UPS, the global leader in logistics, will sponsor engineering students from AUST at the Student Formula Hybrid competition. UPS will contribute financially to design, fabricate and ship the team’s carto India for the competition.  Kamrul Hasan, Captain of Team Swapnojan, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), said they will be the first Bangladeshi team to participate in the Student Formula Hybrid competition. 

Closing ceremony of civil fest held at NSU
A two-day ‘Civil Fest 2017’ organised by the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department (CEED) of North South University (NSU) ended on Tuesday, says a press release. 
The unexpected problems originating from the lack of proper planning and other obstacles faced by city dwellers in Dhaka were addressed. The main objective of the festival was to have interactive communication and understanding between the maestro and experienced experts and leaders and the emerging future engineers (students) to enhance their skills, knowledge and abilities.  Roads, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was the chief guest at the closing ceremony and thanked the NSU’s respective management, students, young engineers and officials for organising a pleasant and colorful event on an important issue. Azim Uddin Ahmed, chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT), NSU was present as the guest of honour. Members of the Board of Trustees (BOT) Benajir Ahmed, MA Kashem, MA Hashem, Rehana Rahman, Yasmin Kamal and Treasurer of NSU Dr Gour Gobinda Goswami, were present as special guests at the programme. Prof  Atiqul Islam, vice-chancellor, NSU chaired the session.   The two-day programme also included CAD competition, Poster and Project presentations, Paper Bridge Display and Science Olympiad for School and College Students.

Canadian University of Bangladesh, IDRA sign MoU 
Canadian University of Bangladesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority Bangladesh (IDRA) recently, says a press release. 
M Shefaque Ahmed, Actuary; chairman, Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority Bangladesh (IDRA) and Prof William H Derrenger, vice-chancellor, Canadian University of Bangladesh signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions.  Dr Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, founder and chairman, Canadian University of Bangladesh, Prof Emeritus AK Azad Chowdhury, honorary advisor, Canadian University of Bangladesh and former chairman, UGC and Arup Das Gupta, managing director, LIC, Bangladesh (Life Insurance Corporation) were present at the MoU signing ceremony. Through the MoU, two institutions will explore on the prospect of academic cooperation and research in the field of Insurance and Actuarial Science.
 
UK delegation meets DU VC

A two-member UK delegation called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique on Tuesday at his office of the university. 
Members of the delegation were Barrister Md Abu Sayeed and Chartered Psychologist Dr Zahirun Nessa Sayeed, DU Educational and Counseling Psychology Department teachers Dr Shaheen Islam and Mahjabeen Haque were present on the occasion.  During the meeting they discussed various issues including development of counseling psychology education at the university.  The UK delegates expressed willingness to provide cooperation in this regard.
