CHITTAGONG: The election to Chittagong District Bar Association (CDBA) will be held on February 12 with three panels contesting.
Election commission sources said all preparations including printing of ballot papers have been completed. Chief election commissioner Advocate Ferdouse Ahmed told BSS that wall writing and pasting posters have strictly been prohibited. The commissioner also urged the candidates to obey the election rules strictly.
Three panels, Awami League and pro-liberation forces backed Chattagram Sammilito Ainjibi Somonnoy Parishad, progressive and left leaning Somomona Ainjibi Sangsad and pro- BNP-Jamaat backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad are vying for posts in the elections this year. CDBA sources said a total of 44 candidates are vying for the posts of 19 office-bearers including 10 executive committee members. The other members of election commission are Advocate Anwar Islam Chowdhury, Advocate Reazaul Karim Chowdhury, Mohammad Foizullah and Enamul Haque. Voting will begin at CDBA Auditorium at 9 am and continue till 4 pm without any break, the sources said.
A total of 3,850 lawyers are eligible to exercise their right of franchise in the elections.
