3 DB, SB men remanded in extortion case

Khagrachari: A court here on Tuesday placed three Members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police and Special Branch on a two-day remand each in connection with an incident of toll collection in sadar upazila on Sunday, reports UNB.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Abu Sufian passed the order after police produced them before his court seeking a three-day remand.
The arrested were identified as district Special Branch members M Friojul Islam and M Monirul Islam and Detective Branch member M Hafizur Rahman.
Officer-in-charge of Khagrachari Sadar Police Station M Shamsuddin Bhuiyan confirmed the matter. Earlier on July 12, police arrested the trio in connection with an incident of extortion at Ganjpara in sadar upazila.
Meanwhile, they were withdrawn from their charge temporarily.
