Former UP member killed

A former Union Parishad member short dead by unknown criminals in Islampur upazila of the district early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Samed Ali, 55 son of late Saheb Ali, a resident of Jigatola village in Kulkandi union of the upazila.
Police said some unknown miscreants, wearing mask, shot Samed Ali to death at a grocery shop of Barul village of the upazila and fled away.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Officer-in-charge of Islampur Police Station Din-E-Alam said unknown miscreants shot him to death.
Police are trying to arrest the miscreants, he added.
Man found dead in Cox’s Bazar
Cox’s Bazar: Police recovered the body of an unidentified man from Keruntali on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf highway in Teknaf upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
Being informed by locals, police recovered the body around 7am, said Abdul Majid, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station.
The law enforcers also recovered 2000 pieces of Yaba tablets and one pistol from near the body, the OC added.
Police suspected that a gunfight took place between two groups of Yaba traders in the dead of night that left one of them dead.
Sexagenarian man killed
Jamalpur: A sexagenarian man was killed by miscreants at Baburchar village in Islampur upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The victim was identified as Somed Ali, 60, a resident of Jhigatala village of the upazila. He was a former member of Kulkandi Union Parishad.
Officer-in-charge of Islampur Police Station Din-E-Alam said Somed might have been gunned down around 12:30am.
However, it is still not clear what prompted the miscreants to kill Somed, the OC added.
