A transport owner of Sakhipur municipality was hacked to death on Tuesday evening.
Transport workers and relatives of the deceased barricaded road damaged the establishments of the alleged killer in protest. Police lobbed tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Razzaque, 28, of Sakhipur municipality in Tangail.
According to sources an altercation erupted between Abdur Razzaque and Nasir Uddin, owner of Nayem Fashion at Fahim Super Market of Sakhipur municipality on Tuesday afternoon. In sequel of the altercation, some criminals allegedly of Nasiruddin hacked to death Razzaque on the second floor of the market.
The death sparked protest and the transport workers came down to streets with sticks, barricaded the road and damaged the business establishment and residence of the alleged killer. The protesters barricaded Dhaka-Sakhipur road for two hours. Police lobbed tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.
All sorts of trading was halted in Sakhipur municipality during the period. Police arrested the alleged killer Nasir Uddin. Additional police have been deployed to bring the situation under control, the OC of Sakhipur Mohammad Ilias said.
