Some 2.8 lakh homeless families will be rehabilitated across the country by 2019 as per the Prime Minister's announcement, said Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury in Parliament yesterday, reports UNB. "The Prime Minister announced that no people would remain homeless. To implement this, some 2.8 lakh homeless families will be rehabilitated by 2019. The implementation process has already started," said Matia, who is in-charge of the Prime Minister's Office in the House, replying to an unstarred question from Awami League MP Nizam Uddin Hazari.
She said some 15,000 homeless families will be rehabilitated under 'Ashrayan-2 Project" in the current fiscal year, 2016-'17, while 20,000 homeless families will be rehabilitated in 2017-18 and 2018-19 fiscal years each.
Besides, homes will be built for 50,000 families in their own lands in 2017-18 fiscal year while for 110,000 families in 2018-19. Moreover, homes will be made for 60,000 families in the last six months of 2019, she added.
