Azmir blasts a record double century

Azmir Ahmed made a new record in domestic circuit when he smashed an unbeaten double century in the Dhaka First Division Cricket League for the 2016-2017 season yesterday.

Agrani Bank’s hard-hitting opener hit 222 off just 168 balls against Udayachal Club at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) Ground-4 in Savar to set the new record.
Riding on Azmir’s double century, Agrani Bank Cricket Club amassed 383 for five in the stipulated 50 overs, which gave them a comprehensive 186-run victory. Ahmed clobbered 16 sixes as many as fours in his 168-ball 222-run knock.
In reply, Udayachal Club managed to score just 197 for six in 50 overs despite Imranuzzaman’s unbeaten century. Imran clouted a round dozen (13) fours and one six in his 102 off 151 to be remained at stumps.
No batsman in Bangladesh whether it is in international level or premier division or first division ever before could crack a double century in one day format. In ODI, double century has been made only six times by five batsmen. Master batsman Sachin Tendulkar set the benchmark as the first-ever batsman what he had done against South Africa in 2010. Then Rohit Sharma (India), Virender Sehwag (India), Chris Gayle (West Indies) and Martin Guptill (New Zealand) touched the milestone one after another.
