Abahani Limited appointed Drago Mamic as their head coach for their upcoming domestic and international schedule at home and abroad while the Serbian arrived in Dhaka yesterday.
Abahani did not make too delay to replace Drago Mamic in place of George Kottan as head coach. Mamic will begin his job with Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup football tournament from February 18.
Abahani will play in the AFC Cup competition from next month (March) following the Sheikh Kamal Club Cup.
Drago Mamic, who came here early of 2016 to coach Abahani but left after three days of joining due to family trouble and George Kottan replaced him.
However, Drago Mamic met the reporters yesterday on the club premises and also talked to the reporters with the prospect of Abahani under his guidance while he gave importance to AFC Cup.
How challenge it would be for him to repeat the result of last season – “It’s very easy when you take the trophy but it’s obligation for the club in this tradition just continuing to conquer the trophies. That means everything is same the year before. The target must be the biggest one, to try to win all the trophies possible. I can not say we will repeat for sure but to try to repeating that and may be better results specifically in AFC Cup,” , Drago Mamic replied.
About the departure of Andrew Lee Tuck, who played the key role for Abahani to win Bangladesh Premier League Football, Drago Mamic did not show any regret about the absence of the English booter as he said, “You know, players coming and going, coaches also coming and going. But club is institution. Club has targets. Everyone working for the club must give the chances to others.”
Mamic is optimistic to keep up the momentum as his predecessor Kottan did - “Mr Kottan made very good results. That means I have the quality players along with the good peoples who are supporting them. That’s why I’m optimistic to keep continuing like that and also try to improve it from the very good work of Kottan.”
“This year after long time they will play AFC Cup which is very good for the reputation of the club and the country. That’s why it is very important for me is good results,” said Mamic.”
