Three DU students get Wazair Faruq Memorial Scholarship
Three meritorious students of Law Department of Dhaka University (DU) were awarded “Advocate Wazair Faruq Memorial Scholarship” on Monday for securing the highest GPA in Law of Contract course in 1st year (Hons) final examinations.
The recipients of scholarship are- Psymhe Wadud, Md Azhar Uddin Bhuiyan and Jannatul Ferdous. Dhaka University Vice-chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed the scholarship and crest among the students as the chief guest at a function at VC's Lounge on the campus. Presided over by the Chairman of Law Department Professor Dr Borhan Uddin Khan, the function was addressed , among others, by the Dean of the Law Faculty Professor Dr Md Rahmat Ullah, Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman, Mrs Taslima Yesmin and son of late Advocate Wazair Faruq Barrister Md Imtiaz Faruq.

BSMMU students get research grants
A total of 232 students under different faculties of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Monday received grants for conducting research in different fields of medical science.
The awardees are 110 from Medicine faculty, 77 from Surgery faculty, 37 from Basic Science and Para Clinic Science faculty and 8 from Dental faculty. The Pro Vice-chancellor (research and development) office of the university allocated grants ranging from Taka 25 thousand to Taka 40 for each student for carrying out research in medical education. BSMMU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan distributed the grants among the students as the chief guest at the auditorium on the campus in the capital. Presided over by the Pro-VC (research and development) of the university Professor Dr Md Shahidullah Sikder, Pro-VC (academic) Professor Dr ASM Zakaria and Treasurer Professor Dr Md Ali Asgor Moral addressed the function as special guests.

‘Speaking Bangla correctly must to respect language martyrs’
Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique on Monday said speaking Bangla in a correct manner is a must for showing due respect to the martyrs of the Language Movement.
“We should show respect to the martyrs of the language movement through correct Bangla speaking and writing,” he told an orientation programme for first year students at Teacher Student Center (TSC) in the capital. DU Biological Science and Engineering and Technology faculties organised the function to welcome their freshers at TSC auditorium on the campus. Presided over by the director of Student Counseling and Guidance Mehzabin Haque, Pro-VC (administration) Professor Dr Akhtaruzzaman, Dean of Biological Science faculty Professor Dr Md Imdadul Hoque and Dean of Engineering and Technology faculty Professor Dr Md Hasanuzzaman addressed the function as special guests. Prof Arefin said the history of Bangladesh and the Dhaka University are identical, saying that although lots of teachers, students and employees of the university had sacrificed their lives for mother tongue, they could not enjoy the victory. Urging the students to show respect to the martyrs of the language movement, the VC urged the students to earn confidence of all people.

Graduation dinner held at Defence Services Command and Staff College 
The Graduation Dinner of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) course ‘DSCSC 2016–2017’ was held on Sunday evening at DSCSC officers mess, Mirpur Cantonment in the capital, says a press release. 
Finance Minister Abul Maal A Muhith graced the occasion as the chief guest. Among others, Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Mohammad Shafiul Huq, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Nizamuddin Ahmed, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, PSO of the Armed Forces Division, PSOs of the three Services, Defence Attaches of the representative countries, other military and civil officials attended the Graduation Dinner.  
At the beginning, Commandant of the College Major General Md Saiful Abedin delivered his welcome address and congratulated all the graduating officers and expressed thanks to the faculty and staff of the college for their relentless hard work to make the course a success. This year, in the ‘DSCSC 2016–2017’ course total 280 officers including 158 officers from Bangladesh Army, 27 officers from Bangladesh Navy, 24 officers from Bangladesh Air Force and 71 overseas officers’ from 25 countries to include China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Liberia, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Palestine, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania,  Uganda, USA and Zambia will be graduating from this College.

Cultural programme held at RU
A cultural programme and prize giving ceremony of inter football champion on the campus was held at the Rajshahi University yesterday. 
The programme was organised by Philosophy department of the university amid festivity among the teachers, students and officials of the dept. They arranged the event for becoming champion for the first time on the campus while more than 51 football teams took part in inter university football tournament recently while Law department got runners up trophy. Prof Dr Asaduzzaman presided over the programme while other dept teachers Prof Dr Shadat Hossain, Prof Akter Ali,  Prof Dr Altah Hossain, Prof Dr Mojibur Rahman, Prof Dr Anisuzzaman,  Prof Dr Shamima Begum, Prof Dr Ekramul Haque, Prof Dr Shormin Hamid, among others, were present on the programme.
