Fake fertilizer factory sealed off
A mobile court in Keraniganj on Monday sealed off a fertilizer factory in Alipur in Hazratpur union for producing and selling adulterated fertilizer and pesticide.
Acting on secret information, a police team raided the factory owned by Saidur Rahman Khan in the afternoon and found the adulterated fertilizer, said upazila agriculture officer Fakhrul Alam. Later, the mobile court led by executive magistrate Parvezur Rahman, also assistant commissioner (land), sealed the factory.
IU student ‘commits' suicide
A student of Islamic University (IU), Kushtia allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at a mess on the PTI Road in the district town on Monday.
The student was identified as Atikur Rahman Atik, 25, a Masters' student of Public Administration Department of the university and son of Delwar Hossain in Bhurungamari of Kurigram district. Officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station Shahabuddin Chowdhury said the cook of the mess found Atik hanging from the ceiling fan in his room around 4pm. On information, police rushed in and recovered a suicide note from the room, added the OC.
2 held with 15,000 yaba tablets
Police arrested two suspected drug peddlers along with 15,000 pieces of contraband yaba tablets and a private car from the capital's Tejgaon Industrial area.
A squad of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Nur Mohammad, 22, and Yeasin, 19, and seized 15,000 pieces of Yaba tablets and a private car from Sat Rastar More under Tejgaon Industrial Police Station, said an official release. A case was lodged to this end.
250 blankets distributed
Azad Nagar Kolyan Sangstha, a local voluntary organisation at Savar, distributed a total of 250 blankets among the poor and destitute people adjoining Jahangirnagar University campus area at Savar yesterday.
Minhaz Uddin Mollah, the ward no 1 councilor of Savar municipality was present as the chief guest. He urged the affluent community to come forward to help the poor and destitute people of the society. Besides, he thanked the members of Azad Nagar Kolyan Sangstha for their voluntary initiative. President of Azad Nagar Kolyan Sangstha Abul Kalam Azad, Secretary Tipu Mollah, Vice-president Mir Hossain, Joint Secretary Ariful Rahman and Treasurer Abdus Samad was present among others.
Road accident kills youth
A young man was killed and 32 others were injured when a BRTC bus dashed an auto-rickshaw in Kadipur area on Rajshahi-Chapaimawabganj highway on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Hassan Ali, 23, son of Akbar Ali, a resident of the nearby Shahabdipur area. Police and hospital sources said the accident occurred when a BRTC bus hit an auto-rickshaw coming from opposite direction around 8.30 am in the area, leaving Ali dead on the spot and injured 32 critically. The injured persons were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and other local hospitals and clinics for treatment, said Hipzur Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Godagari Police Station.
Flower fair ends amid huge rush
A three-day 'One Bank Flower Fair-2017' ended in Rajshahi on Sunday amid huge rush of onlookers and flower-loving people.
Rajshahi Boikali Sangha (RBS) and One Bank Limited jointly organised the fair on the premises of Moni Bazar aimed at meeting up the gradually increasing demands of the flower-loving people. Different nursery owners of the city have set up more than 14 stalls displaying a wide range of blossoms.
The fragrance of different types of roses, marigolds, gerberas, orchids, lilies, tulips, daffodils, petunias, sunflowers, morning glories, poppies, gardenia, gougainvillea, snapdragons, dahlia, nasturtium, begonia, evening primrose, clematis, knight queen, daisies, chrysanthemums, winter flowers, bleeding hearts, cosmos, hollyhock and many others wafting through the air has been attracted throngs of people to the fair.
