Gulshan attack ‘mastermind’ on 15-day remand in two other cases

Jahangir Alam, alias Rajib, alias Gandhi, alias Subash, alias Santoo, alias Tiger, alias Adil, alias Jahid, 32, one of the masterminds of the Holey Artisan Bakery attack in Dhaka’s Gulshan area, was placed on remand for 15 days by two Bogra courts yesterday (Monday). This was in connection with two separate cases in Shibganj and Sherpur upazilas of the district. A court source said Md Razu Kamal, investigating officer (IO) and sub-inspector of Shibganj police station, sought a 10-day remand for Jahangir for his involvement in stocking a large nymber of weapons and jihadi books that were seized from Saduria Road at Chalkpara in Vairpukur on June 13, 2016. A case had been filed at Shibganj police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act. After the hearing, Md Kamruzzaman, senior judicial magistrate-02, granted a seven-day remand for Jahangir. Nine people were arrested after the incident, the IO added.  In the other case, Md  Jahanggir Alam, investigating officer (IO) in the Sherpur bomb blast case, appealed for a 10-day remand. Md Abdullah Al Mamun, senior judicial magistrate-04, granted an eight-day remand.
Jahanggir said two people were killed in a bomb explosion at Sherpur upazila in Bogra on the night of April 4, 2016. One died on the spot and the other succumbed to his injuries at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in the district.
