Nazmul Hassan Papon, president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), describes the upcoming Test against India as the toughest challenge for Bangladesh, stating that India are invincible side at their home condition.
“We took the charge of the board since three years. As so far I know, this will be the toughest series for Bangladesh,” said Nazmul Hassan, who was flanked by directors IH Mallick and Jalal Younus.
“There is no doubt about it because there are two-three causes of it. Firstly, India is a very strongest side and that they are stronger more at their home yard. It would be wrong to consider them as stronger side they are ‘invincible side’ at their home condition,” Papon told the media at his Dhanmondi office yesterday.
“We saw all the biggest teams of the world. We saw their output when they toured in India. Actually India seems to be unconquerable side at their own condition,” he added.
Citing India as advanced than us in terms of batting and spin, the BCB president said that our players have dearth of mentality to play longer version.
“They have good quality players. In batting line-up, they are superb. It is watchable to see the batting of their number eight or nine position batsman. It is an unimaginable. They have Ashwin and Jadeja like spinners, who could spin the ball at any track barring the spin-friendly surface. They are definitely ahead of us in terms of spin and batting. Overall, It is going to be very difficult for us I have no doubt about it,” Nazmul said.
“I told difficult because we have potential players. We don’t see any cause of not doing better. But we have a problem that the mentality we needed to play Test cricket has not developed inside us properly. Our shot selection is not correct. We are unsteady. We have lacks in temperament of playing longer version,” he also said.
Papon, who came from Dubai after attending ICC meeting, where a working paper had been submitted and discussed over it, said that Bangladesh will be benefited from the projected proposal if approved by member countries’ boards and ICC.
“A working paper has been presented in Dubai’s ICC meeting on the base of the output of the last meeting, which was held in Australia. All the matters were on financial and constitutional aspects,” BCB boss said.
“It will be approved by member’s countries boards after scrutinizing them in ICC’s next meeting in April. And then, it will finally be approved by the ICC AGM to be held in June,” he also said.
“Financial aids, which have been mostly come from India and England, will be increased for the other member and associates member countries. Bangladesh will be benefited from the proposed proposal if approved,” he added.
When asked about upcoming series against Pakistan, who request Bangladesh to tour in Pakistan, Papon said that they always request us to travel to their country.
“They want to play the full series with us in Pakistan. They always request us to tour in Pakistan to play with them. This time they also tell us,” he said, adding “The schedule we have against them it remains in the same. There is no chance of hampering the existing schedule.”
“But we didn’t get any proposal from them officially.”
