Three DU students receive Nujhat Jahangir Memorial Scholarship
Three students of the Faculty of Social Science of Dhaka University (DU) have received ‘Nujhat Jahangir Memorial Scholarship’ for scoring the highest CGPA in the BSS Honours examination of 2015.
DU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed the scholarships among the students as the chief guest at a function at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university, said a press release. Awardees are M Islamul Haque (Economics Department), Sheikh Rokiya Hasan (Sociology Department) and Anika Intesar (Anthropology Department). Presided over by treasure of DU Prof Dr M Kamal Uddin, the function was attended, among others, by former Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir, and husband of late Nujhat Jahangir and donor of the Trust Fund Prof. Dr. Borhanduddin Khan Jahangir. DU VC Arefin Siddique congratulated the awardees and urged the students to equip themselves with the humanitarian values to make Bangladesh a peaceful country. Later, Dr. Borhanduddin Khan Jahangir, former professor of DU Political Science Department, handed over a cheque for Tk 25 lakh to DU VC Arefin Siddique to set up “ Professor Dr Helal Uddin Khan Shamsul Arefeen Trust Fund” at the Department of Anthropology. Professor Dr Helal Uddin Khan Shamsul Arefeen, a former professor of the Department of Anthropology, died recently at the age of 68.
‘Campus Career Festival’ begins at JU
A two-day long ‘Campus Career Festival’ organised by prominent online job portal bdjobs.com began yesterday at Jahangirnagar University (JU).
JU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam inaugurated the fair at Zahir Raihan Auditorium about at 10.30 am.
JU Students’ Welfare Centre Director Prof Dr Rasheda Akhter, professor of JU Philosophy department Dr Kamrul Ahsan and Chairman of bdjobs.com Prokash Ray Choudhury attended this festival as special guest. ‘A total of 31 different renowned private institutions are taking part in this festival while they are offering a total of 95 posts for the job aspirants’, Mohammed Ali Feroz, the coordinator ‘Campus Carrier Festival’ told The Independent.
