DNCC gets new office
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) formally started its activities from its new office in Gulshan-2 on Sunday.
DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq inaugurated the new office at plot 23-26 of Road 46 of the posh area. Expressing his satisfaction over the shift of the office, the DNCC mayor asked the DNCC staff to deliver services in a modern and dynamic way. He also assured that they will soon find a suitable place for the new Nagar Bhaban.
200-maund jatka seized
A mobile court, in a drive, seized 200- maund of jatka (small hilsa fish) from Rupatoli area in Barisal city yesterday afternoon.
The court also sentenced two persons to 18 and 13 months jail respectively and fined another Taka 5,000 for catching and selling jatka. On a tip-off, the team intercepted a truck in the area and recovered the jatka after searching the truck and arrested the trio. Later, they were produced before the court, said fisheries officer Bimal Das.
Battle of Brush programme held
Junior Chamber International (JCI) Dhaka West, a local chapter of JCI Bangladesh, organised its signature painting competition, Battle of Brush from February 1, says a press release.
Youngsters from different schools across the capital participated in the preliminary round held on their respective school premises while the finale of the programme will take place on February 28. Prominent writer, cartoonist and chief editor of the magazine Unmad Ahsan Habib is expected to attend in the grand finale as the chief guest.
Road crash kills 1 in Keraniganj
A woman was killed and 17 other people were injured following a head-on collision between a bus and a minibus on Dhaka-Mawa Highway at Teghoria in Keraniganj on Sunday.
The deceased could not be identified immediately.
Sub-inspector of South Keraniganj Police Station Abdur Rahim said the accident took place around 8pm when the bus collided with the minibus on the road in the area, leaving the woman dead on the spot and 17 other passengers injured.
