A youth was killed as another boy hit him with a cricket stump during a cricket match in the city on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Faisal, 15, son of Md Shahajahan of Madarbari area in the city. He was involved with a small business in the city.
Two groups of youth was playing cricket on the Collegiate School’s play ground around 5pm. They engaged in a altercation over the match. At one stage a youth hit Faisal with a cricket stump in his neck, leaving him injured critically. Fellows rushed Faisal to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) around 6:00 pm where on duty doctor declared him dead, said Inspector Jahirul Islam, in-charge of the hospital police outpost. Chittagong Metropolitan Police (Kotwali zone) assistant commissioner Jahangir Alam said some youths of Morichha Para area under Sadarghat Police station were playing cricket divided into two groups. Following an altercation over counting score, a youth hit Faisal with a stump. Later Faisal’s fellows took him to CMCH where he was declared dead.
