Luz Maria Lopez, internationally acclaimed poet, translator and narrator, got highly impressed to see excitements of book lovers at the month-long Amar Ekushey Granthamela.
“I really am surprised..... This is indeed a mega book fair in terms of its duration and I have never seen such a vibrant gathering of book lovers, authors, publishing houses in other countries,” she told BSS during at the four-day International Literary Conference that ended Saturday. Lopez said, “I am deeply impressed by creative works of Rabindranath Tagore. I want to know Bangla literature and culture. That is why I have come to Bangladesh as a participant of Ekushey Book Fair.”
She said, “Book fair is held in my country for a short period of time. Amar Ekushey Book Fair is really a large gathering of people of all ages, which is filled with deep emotion and love.” Expressing her optimism for enthusiasm of youths, Lopez was very happy to see huge presence of young generation at the book fair. Visitors should buy more books to make the book fair successful.
She is allured with hospitality of Bangladeshi people.
“I am thrilled as a participant of this book fair. Bangladesh was born as a result of profound love and huge sacrifices for Bangla language,” Lopez added.
Lauding remarkable progress in the field of women empowerment in Bangladesh, Lopez, also a cultural promoter and women activist, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina deserves special appreciation for her bold stance to promote women empowerment.
In reply to a question, she said, “I have no elaborate idea about Bangladesh. But I know that Bangladesh was born under courageous leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. I have heard about March 7 speech of Bangabandhu, which inspired Bangalees to join the War of Liberation. Subsequently, Bangladesh emerged as an independent country in the world.”
Lopez said Bangladesh is a rich in literature, cultural and different other forms of arts. “I am gradually enriching with extra-ordinary literature works of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam and other talented writers and poet in Bangla literature”.
