RAJSHAHI: Jahanara Zaman, wife of AHM Quamruzzaman, one of the four national leaders, died of cardiac arrest at her Gulshan residence in Dhaka city early Monday. She was 84.
Jahanara Zaman, also mother of former mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation and president of Rajshahi city Awami League AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, complained of chest pain on Sunday night and died around 12.45am, said Mir Ishtiaque Limon, personal secretary to Liton.
She had long been suffering from diabetes and old age complications, Limon said, reports agencies. Jahanara left behind two sons and four daughters. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday expressed profound shock at the death of Jahanara Zaman, wife of national leader AHM Quamruzzaman.
In a message, the Prime Minister recalled her contributions with gratitude during the War of Liberation and the post-1975 period after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Sheikh Hasina also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
President Abdul Hamid also expressed deep shock at the death of Jahanara Zaman, wife of national leader AHM Quamruzzaman.
