With only three to four days remaining for Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of the Muslims, the beauty parlours and saloons in Khulna city are witnessing heavy rush of customers.
The girls and women from all sections of life visit the parlours for facials, haircuts and hair dyeing and also to get their hands and feet decorated with beautiful mehedi designs.
Facial means nourishment of skin with face packs. Face packs using fruit, flower, aloe vera, vegetable peel off, herbal, quick massage facials start from Tk 100 to Tk 500 onward.
The use of sandal, aloe vera, raw turmeric, saffron, neem leaf, multani mud is very old, said some clients. The city’s lanes and by-lanes are occupied by various kinds of beauty saloons.
The beauty parlours business boosts before festivals like Eid, Puja and wedding seasons.
The overwhelming majority of the owners of these beauty palours are women.
The success behind the beauty saloon business is dependence on the performance of the beauticians, nearly all of whom are ladies.
Their knowledge, experience, understanding the clients need, global trend, and the customer care policy, all have boosted the business.
“Beauty is a combination of the unique physical structure, the inner psychological qualities, the personality and a total completeness,” says Shyaila Sultana, owner of Nanking Beauty Parlour.
The young people have become very conscious of their looks. They are giving much emphasis on their personal look, trend, style and personality.
The admiration for a film star and the desire to look like him or her is very natural.
This correspondent visited a few beauty parlours like Mohinee Beauty Parlour, Damini Beauty Parlour, Saaj Beauty Parlour, Badhuya Beauty Parlour and Boutiques, Sajola Beauty Parlour, Ruposhi Beauty Parlour, Monalisha Beauty Parlour in the city and found the beauticians very busy giving beauty touches to their clients.
“I have come here to shape my eyebrows and get a volume layer haircut in line with the latest fashion, like the one my favorite model has,” said Rezvina Khanom, a customer at a beauty parlour.
Fatima Tabassum, owner of Daminee Beauty Parlour at Farazipara Main Road, also a famous beautician in Khulna, said people’s skins tend to get dehydrated due to fasting, it is really important to make it soft by giving facial treatment.
Facials involve a cleansing procedure, a massage and steam, and the application of a face mask which helps to replenish the lost moisture in skin alongside removing dead, dull outer layer of cells and it is a must before grand occasions like Eid, Tabassum added.
Most of the parlours remain open from 9:30 am to 11:00 pm and sometimes longer, with so much to offer to be completed.
“Usually, most of my clients come to have a haircut, hair colour and different types of facial during Eid,” said Tabassum. The rush at beauty parlours and saloons does not stop on the Eid day.
Nasrin Akter, a beautician at Monalisa Beauty Parlour said that the last ten days of Ramadan remain very busy and sometimes she has to hire extra staff to meet the need of the customers; as a result, every parlor looks busy till the night before Eid.
They said that their businesses have expanded due to the growing interest in glamour and fashion in general.
Not only women, but now men also rush to parlors for better look. SM Masud Karim, owner of Cheroki Hair Times Gent’s Parlour in the city said, “Their staff are very busy giving beauty touches to their clients.”
According to ‘Play Boy Hair Care’ beauticians, Eid is a festival time and people of all ages come to beautify themselves. Normally, beauty saloons announce different packages much before Eid; but at the night before Eid, the prices further reduce.
