Shab-e-Qadr observed

The holy Shab-e-Qadr or Lailatul Qadr was observed on Tuesday night through enthusiastic offering of special prayers all over the country. Bangladesh is the eighth most populous country in the world and over ninety per cent of its people are Muslims. Thus, it was a sublime spectacle to see millions of our people knelling down in deep prayers on that night beseeching forgiveness from their Creator for their sins and well-being here and hereafter. The countrywide praying on the occasion is reflective every time of the fact that this country and its people remain anchored firmly to their spiritual or religious mooring looking up to Almighty Allah as they should for their eternal salvation.
Shab-e-Qadr marked the first revelation to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) of the words of Almighty Allah. The revelations then continued for the next 23 years and were compiled together as the Holy Quran. Thus, this night carries so much special significance for the world’s Muslims because it was the starting point of a process of their enlightenment from their Creator.
Even truly learned non Muslims admit that the Holy Quran has been a great liberating force for the Arabs fourteen centuries ago when they remained soaked in ignorance, idolatry and all kinds of inhuman acts and instincts. The holy Quran came as the greatest source of deliverance for them from all kinds of evils and unclean and unsound activities-- by obeying its commandments-- to be able to lead a worthy, purified and happy life. And the Quran was revealed not only to Arabs but for all times and to all peoples for their guidance and rectification.
The holy Quran has been analysed and studied by eminent historians, academicians, theologists and laymen the world over for many years in different countries and cultures. Except for the few of them who were almost pathologically inclined to be prejudicial to its text, the remarkable aspect is nearly all of them concluded that the Quran was unlike any other holy book of its kind for its objectivity and scientific accuracy. More conspicuously they also concluded that the way of life and living recommended in the Quran for human beings, if the same are accepted and practiced sincerely then humans --individually and collectively-- will be only the happier and better in every sense.
Indeed, fourteen centuries after the revelation of the Holy Quran its appeal and utility remains unchanged.
