4 held with 2000 yaba tablets
Law enforcers arrested four people along with 2000 yaba tablets from Panchagarh and Rangpur on Friday night, report agencies.
In Panchagarh: Members of RAB in a drive arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with 1000 yaba tablets from Benghari Bongram village in Boda upazila.
The arrestees were identified as Ranju, 54 and Masud, 24 of Kashinathpur village in Pabna district.
In Rangpur: Police in a drive arrested two youths with 1,000 pieces of yaba from Kachdag Ghat area of Pirganj upazila. The arrested youths are Rasel Miah, 28, and Asadul, 23, residents of the upazila.
On a tip-off, a team of police from Pirganj Police Station conducted the drive in the area and arrested the duo with the yaba tablets, said OC Rejaul Karim. The arrestees were sent to jail yesterday morning.
Housewife killed over land dispute in Gaibandha
Gaibandha: A housewife was killed in an attack over a land dispute with her neighbour at Singhadanga village in Gobindaganj upazila on Friday, reports UNB.
The victim was identified as Shahinur Begum, wife of Rahedul Islam of the village.
Subrata Kumar, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Police station, said Rahedul Islam, an expatriate, and his neighbour Anarul Islam had long been at loggerheads over a land. On Friday morning, when Anarul and his brother Chand Mia went to the disputed land for capturing it, Shahinur resisted them. At one stage, Anarul hit Shahinur with a spade, leaving her dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and arrested Chand Mia. Anarul went into hiding.
29 held for fishing in Sundarbans sanctuary
Satkhira: Forest officials detained 29 fishermen from Pushpakathi area of the Sundarbans under Satkhira range on Friday for fishing in a sanctuary, reports UNB.
The arrestees hail from different areas of Rampal of Bagerhat and Kuakata of Patuakhali districts.
Azizur Rahman, in-charge of Pushpakathi Forest Patrolling camp, said a team of the forest department launched a drive at Pushpakathi sanctuary in the Mandar Baria canal early in the morning and detained 29 fishermen along with five trawlers while fishing in the area illegally.
They were later handed over to Munshiganj Forest Patrolling camp under Satkhira range in the afternoon.
Talking to reporters, the arrestees claimed they entered the sanctuary mistakenly due to dense fog.
12 held with 4400-kg shark
KHULNA: Bangladesh Coast Gaurd (BCG) members arrested 12 fishermen and recovered 4400-kg of Shark from an engine boat at Harinpala Echo Park area in the river Baleswar in Sundarbans on Friday night, reports BSS.
Operation officer of BCG West Zone Lt Commander M Fariduzzaman said on secret information, a special team of BCG conducted a raid on the Baleswar River and arrested the fishermen while they were netting shark around 19.30 pm last night.
"We seized 4400 kgs of shark from the boat after searching,” he said. The patrol team handed over them to Vandaria Forest Office in presence of upazila nirbahi officer and environment and forest department officer. A case was filed with local police station in this connection.
Two held with heroin

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested two alleged drug peddlers with 102 grams of heroin from Ramkistapur area in Chapainawabganj town on Friday noon, reports BSS.
The arrestees were identified as Anarul, 50, and his daughter Ruma Begum, 25. RAB said, acting on secret information, an operation team of RAB from Chapainawabganj camp raided the house of Anarul at12 noon and arrested them with the heroin worth Tk 10 lakh. Later, they were handed over to Sadar police station with a case.
Foundation stone of FF
complex laid in Gangni
MEHERPUR: M Mokbul Hossain Prodhan, MP, laid the foundation stone of Freedom Fighter (FF) complex at Gangni upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS.
A discussion was held on upazila office premises in this connection yesterday morning.
Gangni upazila Muktijoddha Commander Muntaj Ali presided over the meeting while UNO Arif-uj-Zaman, executive engineer of LGED Ajimuddin, municipality mayor Ashraful Islam, OC Anwar Hossain, and Zila Muktijoddha commander Basir Ahamed were present, among others.
Local government Engineering Department (LGED) is implementing the construction work of the complex at a cost of Tk over 1.57 crore.
Four unions declared beggar free in Chuadanga
CHUADANGA: Four unions of two upazilas of the district have been declared as beggar free areas, reports BSS.
The concerned upazila administrations declared Banka, Hashadah and Monohorpur unions of Jibannagar upazila and Parkrishnapur-Madna union of Damurhuda upazila as beggar free area.
Khulna divisional administration has taken up a programme to make all the 10 districts beggars free. Under the beggars rehabilitation program a total of 140 beggars have been rehabilitated in the four unions. The rest of the beggars of the two upazila would be rehabilitated by the next month, official sources said.
The beggars were rehabilitated by involving them with income-generating tasks, providing houses in the Abashan projects, VGF cards, cash taka, household utensils, goats and rickshaw van's etc.
