Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad yesterday alleged that the current government has failed to ensure good governance, though it has carried out huge development activities, reports UNB. “Incidents like killing and torture on journalists are taken place for lack of good governance,” he said. Ershad, also the Prime Minister’s special envoy, came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at Patuakhali Circuit House. He said elections were not fair under the current Election Commission (EC) as its chief was ‘spineless’ and ‘worthless’ one. “There was also no scope for fair polls under the outgoing Commission.” The Jatiya Party chief, however, hoped that a neutral and stronger EC will be formed based on the recommendations to be made by the search committee formed by President Abdul Hamid for the EC reconstitution. “The next election will be held in a free and fair manner if the Commission is formed with neutral and competent people,” he said. Earlier, Ershad took part in Akheri Munajat (final supplication) of Patuakhali district ijtema of Tabligh Jamaat. Jatiya Party secretary general Ruhul Amin Hawlader and its some other senior leaders were present.
