Bangladesh top-seeded golfer Siddikur Rahman finished runner-up, whilst young Thai talent Jazz Janewattananond stunned all to grab his maiden Asian Tour title in the Bashundhara Bangladesh Open Golf Competition 2017 at the Kurmitola Golf Course in the city yesterday.

En route to his accomplishment, Jazz faced no stiff challenge from his rivals in the final round as he opened with a four-shot lead and comfortably pulled off the victory with a total 17-under-par 267. Siddikur earned this achievement by playing 13 more shots less than par. He placed second following a 66 in the third leg of the Asian Tour schedule this season. American golfer, Dodge Kemmer, who made his best finish, third, on Tour on his own on 273.
By virtue of becoming the champions Jazz, the 21-year-old young Thai talent bagged US$54,000 as winners’ prize money and will also be afforded with a one-year winner’s freedom on the Asian Tour. “I have been waiting for this win for so long. I started playing on the Asian Tour when I was an amateur at 14. It’s just a huge relief that I managed to get the job done,” said Jazz Janewattananond.
Bangladesh poster boy, who has been passing a tough time in last few days, was also highly satisfied to be runners up after coming from behind.
“I am really thankful to get such a huge crowd following me on my home course on the last day. I am happy with how I played too,” said Siddikur Rahman. “Actually it has been a long time since I last played so well. It was a great round and a superb week,” Rahman told the media.
“I struggled with food poisoning earlier this week but I have no complaints. I stayed at home to recuperate and so I didn’t take much preparation. I am glad that I was able to recover in time for the tournament,” the local icon golfer revealed.  When asked about his final result, Siddikur replied, “I was just playing for par on the 18. I heard Dodge was at 11-under-par in third so I thought I just needed a par to keep my second place. But I made a birdie there. It’s my favourite hole here.”
Housing and public works minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain as the chief guest distributed trophy and prize money among the winners. Bashundhara Group chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan was also present as the special guest.
