Zunaid Siddique smashed an unbeaten 172 off 276 as BCB North Zone put on 327 for four against Walton Central Zone on the close of the first day of the second round in the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong yesterday.
At Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Prime Bank South Zone compiled 376 for six rode on three half-centuries from Anamul Haque Bijoy, Tushar Imran and Ziaur Rahman.
North Zone vs South Zone
Walton Central Zone stand-in captain Marshall Ayub opted to field first after winning the toss in a bid to use his bowling battery so that he can wrap up BCB North Zone as much as possible.
Defending champions made a solid start when pacer Dewan Sabbir trapped Nazmul Hossain lbw in the third delivery of his first over. Skipper Jahurul Islam Omee made a gritty resistance with Zunaid Siddique and hit 98-run for the second wicket. Young paceman Shahidul broke the stand when Omee was caught behind for 39. Just three runs after Naeem Islam also trudged back to be pavilion being caught behind.
This time Zunaid Siddique yet again tried to steady the innings and bashed 108-run with Nasir Hossain for the fourth wicket stand, which superseded 200-run mark. Before caught behind, Nasir of course completed his fifty. The spin all-rounder clattered 55 off 73 with six fours and one six. In the meantime, Zunaid clouted his century and attempted to convert it into double century. He pulled together another invaluable 110-run with Dhiman Ghosh for the unbeaten fifth wicket partnership.
National discard Zunaid finally clubbed 19 fours in his patient 276-ball 172 to be remained unbeaten. Wicketkeeper-batsman Dhiman Ghosh also clobbered half century after Nasir Hossain. Ghosh slammed 51 off 87 with six fours and one six.
Fast bowler Shahidul Islam snapped up two wickets, while seamer Dewan Sabbir and spinner Shuvagata Hom Chowdhury snared one wicket each for North Zone.
South Zone vs East Zone
Put into bat, Prime Bank South Zone stumbled in the very first over of the innings when in-form opener Fazle Mahmud fell for fist-ball duck. They then lost opener Shahriar Nafees inside 17 overs. This time South Zone started stretching their total by subsequent batsmen. Anamul Haque Bijoy stitched together a precious 108-run third wicket with Tushar Imran, who made another 38-run with Mohammad Mithun before his exit.
Bijoy missed his century for 11 runs. He clobbered 12 fours and two sixes in his 116-ball 89. Tushar chipped in with 62 off 123, hitting eight fours. Since then, Mithun cracked a 52-run fifth wicket with Mosaddek, who went for 39 as the last batsmen on Day-1. Mithun fell three runs short of his half century.
Together with Sohag Gazi, Ziaur Rahman finished the day at stumps. The duo hit 85-run with Sohag Gazi for the unbeaten seventh wicket. Rahman remained indefatigable at 55, while Gazi was not out on 42. New pace sensation Ebadot Hossain was the most successful bowler, who hauled three wickets for East Zone. Saqlain Sajib, Tasamul Haque and Shahanur Rahman picked up one wicket apiece.
