The 22nd Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) has received Tk 243.44 crore in export orders while the local and foreign exhibitors generated Tk 113 crore in sales during the fair.
This was announced at the concluding ceremony of the fair at the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Agargaon in the capital yesterday.
Public administration minister Syed Ashraful Islam attended the programme as chief guest while senior secretary of the Commerce Ministry Hedayetullah Al Mamun as special guest.
Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Abdul Matlub Ahmed and Vice Chairman of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Begum Mafruha Sultana also spoke on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed Ashraful Islam said businesspeople are taking the country ahead and farmers are also playing role in this regard. He said Bangladesh has made a significant progress in innovation. DITF will continue to encourage such innovative activities, he said, adding that this fair will be held in a broader space in future.
Hedayetullah Al Mamun said businesspeople played key role in making the month-ling DITF a success.
Abdul Matlub Ahmed said DITF ended successful in cooperation of all quarters. He said the fair is now held by constructing big pavilions though small stalls were set up in DITF in the past. Bangladesh imported shoes-furniture but it is now exporting these products, he added.
Walton has been adjudged as the best taxpayer, like in the past, depositing the highest Tk 36,03,899 and also was honoured with Best Pavilion award at the trade fair.
In his immediate reaction, Executive Director of Public Relations of Walton Humayun Kabir said, “The awards have increased our responsibilities. From the beginning, Walton is trying its best to reach the world standard products to the door steps of local customers at affordable prices”
In the last DITF-16, Walton awarded the first prize of highest VAT payer by depositing Tk 17,57,784 to the government exchequer. This year, Walton paid double VAT compared to DITF-16. Export Promotion Bureau and Ministry of Commerce was jointly organised the DITF.
EPB sources said that around 585 stalls include 20 foreign stalls along with 28 pavilions were participated in this fair.
Director General of EPB Dr. Manzur Kadir said that all types of local manufacturing products were available to this fair which comprised; garments, furniture, electronics, leather shoe etc.
The motto of this year’s fair was to promote the local products, especially product from the leather sector. Dr. Kadir added.
The last day of the Trade fair noticed an affluent amount of crowd momentum.
