Youth found dead in Sylhet
SYLHET: A young man was found dead at Damdama in Gowainghat upazila on Friday.
Locals spotted the body of Russel Mia, 20, son of Rafiq Mia, at Damdama haor (water body) in the morning and informed police about it. Police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Gowainghat Police Station. Quoting his family members, police said Russel went out of his house on Thursday night and did not return. His is believed to have been killed over previous enmity.
21 held in anti-narcotics drive
Police arrested 21 people from different areas of the capital in the last 24 hours till 6am on Friday for their alleged involvement in illegal drug trading.
The law enforcers also seized 1,733 contraband sex-stimulating tablets, 200 sachets of heroin, 850 gram hemp, 113 bottles of Phensidyl syrup and 135 injections during the anti-drug drives. Different police stations and Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police conducted the drives from 6am on Thursday.
11 ‘robbers’ arrested in capital
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in separate drives arrested 11 ‘robbers’ in the capital and seized some sharp weapons from their possessions.
Of the arrestees, Uzzal, 28, Rifat, 20, Faruk, 20, Hanif, 24, Raju, 25, and Bappi, 27, were arrested from Bash Potti area in Shanir Akhra at around 11.35 pm on Friday. Members of Jatrabari Police Station picked them up as the ‘robbers’ were preparing to carry out a robbery in the area. Police recovered three machetes from their possessions. Another dacoit was arrested from capital’s Kawla area by members of Airport Police Station last night. Police seized two machetes from the possession of Dulal Matabbar alias Opu, 23. Meanwhile, Uttara East Police Station members have arrested four ‘robbers’-Aminul Islam, 26, Sabuj Sarker, 27, Tushar Ahammed, 26, and Asif Ahammed, 20, from in front of Kashodi Restaurant in the area early yesterday and recovered a knife and machete from them.
480 cans of beer seized
A patrol team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-1 has seized 480 bottles of foreign beer from a private car in the capital’s Gulshan area on Friday, said a RAB release in the capital yesterday.
The RAB-1 team led by Major Ishtiaq Ahmed detained a private car bearing a registration number with Dhaka Metro-Ga 11-2242 and seized 480 canes of foreign beer in five paper made cartons inside the car after searching it at Gulshan -1 at 4.20pm on Thursday.
The estimated price of these recovered beers is at least Tk 1.44 lakh.
