Bangladesh pace prodigy Mustafizur Rahman yet another became the cynosure of all discussion when he will take his first tentative steps back into bowling with the second round of the Bangladesh Cricket league (BCL) for the Prime Bank South Zone.Mustafiz was slated to tour in India for the historic one-off Test but he had lacks match fitness following his waist and side strain injury after a major surgical operation in his left shoulder.
And so, selectors and team management scraped his name from the final list before the announcement of the Test squad for India tour so that he could build up his match fitness and temperament properly for the longer version through the four-day match of the BCL ahead of the upcoming busiest international schedule.
As soon as the end of the India series, Bangladesh will then tour in Sri Lanka for a full bilateral series prior to the Ireland-New Zealand tri-nation and Champions Trophy.
In a bid to play in the BCL, the 21-year-old pacer held pre-match day practice with South Zone at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS) yesterday. South Zone will lock horns with Islami Bank East Zone in the second round of the SICS. In the opening round, they shared the spoils with BCB North Zone due to the expected draw.
The paceman himself tweeted about his return on his verified facebook page and he is happy to inform you all that he will play BCL for Prime Bank South Zone.
“I am glad to inform you that I will play BCL this year for Prime Bank South Zone,” said Mustafizur Rahman.
Prime Bank South Zone also confirmed the news, stating at their webpage that both Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain are playing for their team from the second round.
“Great news for Prime Bank South Zone fans! Two pace bowling geniuses Rubel Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman joined the squad.”
Another pace Rubel Hossain will also be seen with Mustafiz to get down playing for the one-time BCL champions South Zone.
Rubel toured to Australia and New Zealand in place of Shafiul Islam’s abrupt injury at the time of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). But he could not justify his selection in New Zealand tour after coming back from patchy form for a longer period. And so, selection committee yet again picked a fit Shafiul Islam for India series.
In day’s other match, defending champion Walton Central Zone will face-off BCB North Zone at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chittagong.
Two-time champions conceded their first round loss to Islami Bank East Zone, who are now in pole position with six points.
