Schoolboy killed in Pabna
Pabna: A schoolboy was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants at Sholabaria village in Santhia upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The victim was identified as Ovi, 13, a class VII student of AtaikulaHigh School and son of Imran Hossain Babu, a resident of the village.
Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of Ataikula Police Station, said local people spotted the body of Ovi lying near his house and informed police.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Pabna GeneralHospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed.
Huge jatka seized in Barguna
Barguna: Members of  Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 20 maunds of ‘jatka’ (hilsa fry) from four trawlers in the Bishkhali River in Patharghata upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
Lt Hasanur Rahman, station commander of Patharghata Coast Guard camp, said they conducted a drive in the river and seized the jatka from the four trawlers around 12.30am.
However, no one was arrested as the fishermen fled the scene sensing the presence of the coast guards.
The seized fish was distributed among the destitute people of the area.
FF killed over trifling matter
Narsingdi: A freedom fighter, who was hit allegedly by his neighbour at Sonakura village in Shibpur upazila on Wednesday over a trifling matter, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital early Thursday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Md Samsu Uddin, 72, a resident of the village. Syeduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Shibpur Police Station, said Samsu locked into a fight with his neighbour Sangkar Barman on Wednesday afternoon as he caught fish from Samsu’s pond without his permission.
When Samsu was taking tea at a tea stall near his home in the evening, Sangkar hit him on the head with a stick, which left him critically injured.
He was first taken to Shibpur Upazila Health Complex where doctors referred him to the DMCH. Samsu succumbed to his injuries at the hospital around 5am.
Meanwhile, Sangkar with his family members went into hiding after the incident.
Ferry services resume

Ferry operation on Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia-Kanthalbari routes resumed on Friday morning after several hours’ disruption due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.   M Salahuddin, manager (commercial) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation’s Aricha ghat office, said the ferry service esd kept suspended on Paturia-Daulatdia route from 6 am to 9:00am.
Three ferries were forced to anchor in the mid-river.
Passengers faced sufferings as around 200 vehicles had to be kept waiting on both sides of the river.
However, the ferry services resumed around 9:00am as fog started disappearing with the sunrise.
Meanwhile, Abdus Salam and Giasuddin Patwari, managers of BIWTC Shimulia and Kanthalia ghats, said they kept suspended ferry services and plying of the water vessels from 4am to 9am due to poor visibility for dense fog. Eight ferries stayed motionless in the mid-river, as thick fog enveloped the area. 300 vehicles were kept waiting on both sides of the river for crossing.
