A man was killed and 10 others were injured in a clash between two groups of Awami League (AL) at Mathpara in Sadar upazila over establishing supremacy in the area yesterday morning, reports UNB from Kushtia. The deceased was identified as Idris Ali, 45, son of late Gafur of the same village. There had been a long standing dispute between Jiarkhi union AL general secretary Abdul Kader and ward AL president Afzal Hossain over establishing dominance in the area, said Rabiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Model Police Station.
The supporters of the two groups had an altercation around 8am that led to a fierce clash. The two rival groups, equipped with arms, attacked each other, leaving Idris dead on the spot and 10 people injured. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The injured were admitted to Kushtia General Hospital. Additional police force have been deployed to avert further trouble.
