BTRC moves to finalise guideline for sharing Distributed Antenna System

To ensure quality of services, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has taken steps to finalise the guideline for sharing the Distributed Antenna System (DAS) among the mobile phone operators with a view to ensuring uninterrupted network for the subscribers.
The commission has already formed a five-member committee to amend the guideline for infrastructure sharing. The committee will submit its report within one month to the regulator. According to the decision taken at the 201st meeting of the commission, director general (Engineering and Operations) has been made the convener of the committee.  
The committee will submit its recommendation to the BTRC after amending the guideline for infrastructure sharing with its recommendations about active infrastructure sharing in the arenas of indoor building solution (IBS).
Distributed Antenna System (DAS) is a way to deal with isolated spots of poor coverage inside a large building by installing a network of relatively small antennas throughout the building to serve as repeaters. At the moment sharing system is active at the secretariats.
A senior official of BTRC told The Independent that the commission wants more expansion of DAS and the decision has been taken into effect.  
 BTRC Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood told The Independent that “We want to apply all the opportunities to ensure quality of services.”
“We've already set up a lab and imported necessary equipment to monitor the quality of service,” he added. He said five out of every six people use mobile phone and the BTRC was determined to ensure the quality of service for mobile phone users. Moreover, the telecom regulator has also taken steps to formulate QoS guideline. But, the mobile phone operators in the country have failed to ensure the QoS to satisfy the customers. Earlier, Bangladesh Telecommuni-cation Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has introduced a helpline to receive the complaints of mobile phone users. Short code “2872” will be available for the subscribers from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Customers can lodge complaints with the telecom regulator by dialling 2872 if they fail to get any remedy from any operator. At present, subscribers can file complaints against any operator on the regulator's website or by sending an e-mail to BTRC.
