Reunion of JU geography dept Mar 3
SAVAR: The ‘3rd Reunion Programme’ of Geography and Environment department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) will be held on March 3.  Mokbul Huda Choudhury, the convener of the Publicity committee of this reunion programme, disclosed it through a press conference at Jahangirnagar University Journalist’s Association (JUJA) office yesterday. Mokbul Huda Choudhury said a total of 1998 students including 40 batches have already completed their honors and master’s degree from this department will be expected to attend this programme. Moreover, about 341 students from the current batches (41st to 46th) as well as all teachers, officials and employees will also take part in this programme, he added.  However, though the main events will be held on March 3, the inaugural session will be held on March 2. Marking the reunion programme, the whole university will be decorated with colorful illumination. The registration process for this programme has already begun form January 1 which will continue till February 15. The main reunion programme will include rally, reminisces, cultural events at Selim Al Dean Muktamancha and grand ending session. The former teacher of JU Geography and Environment department professor Mesbah –Us- Salehin and director of JU Public Relations Office (PRO) Mir Abul Kashem were present in the press meet among others.


9-day drama festival begins at JU
SAVAR: A nine-day ‘Drama Festival- 2017’ organised by Jahangirnagar Theatre, a prominent cultural based organisation on campus, began yesterday which will continue till February 11. About at 10am, Professor of JU Drama and Dramatics department Dr Afsar Ahmed inaugurated the festival at the foot of JU Amar Ekushe sculpture by releasing balloons. After the inaugural session, they brought out a colorful procession with the participation of prominent cultural activists and dramatists as well as general students which paraded different streets on the campus. Later, they placed wreath at the Nattachrya Selim Al Deans’ tomb. The nine-day fest will be included with inaugural events, rally, poster exhibition, drama staging, reunion and ending session. A total of 5 dramas will stage within this 9 days in every evening at Selim Al Deen Muktamancha (Open Air Theater).


Workshop held at BAU
MYMENSINGH: A discussion and workshop on various uses of Arhar pulse (pigeon pea) was held at the conference room of Crop Botany department of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh on Tuesday. Chaired by the head of Crop Botany department Prof AKM Zakir Hossain, BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Ali Akbar attended the programme as chief guest.
Pro-VC Prof Md Josimuddin Khan and Coordinator of Higher Education and Research Committee Prof Luthful Hasan attended the workshop as the special guests. The speakers in the workshop told that the Arhar pulse is an excellent source of magnesium, phosphorus, calcium and potassium. Besides, it contains fewer amounts of copper, zinc and magnesium.  It provides an adequate amount of iron and selenium.
Professor of Crop Botany department of BAU Solayman Ali Fakir who is currently conducting research on Arhar pulse told about the benefits of Arhar pulse. After the workshop, Arhar pulse seed is distributed among some workers of BAU and also the farmers of the nearby areas.


RU to stage drama at Shilpakala Academy Feb 5
RAJSHAHI: The Theatre Department of Rajshahi University (RU) will stage a play of prominent dramatist, director Uthfal Datto titled ‘Tinar Taluar’ on February 5 and February 6 at the Studio theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital, as a part of a five-day theatre festival. RU Theatre Department associate Prof Dr Mir Mehebub Alam Nahid confirmed it through a press release.  The play will be directed by RU Theatre Department associate Prof Dr Mir Mehebub Alam Nahid in assistant by culture affairs ministry.
