Finally, the government has appointed a new chairman and three new members to the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC).
The five-member Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission, the country’s independent watchdog for the energy sector, had been running with only one member and without any chairman for about two months.
The immediate past Power Division secretary Monwar Islam was made the new chief of the energy regulator while former chief engineer of Bangladesh Power Development Board Md Mizanur Rahman, former managing director of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd Abdul Aziz Khan, and former additional secretary Mahmudul Haq Bhuiyan were made the new members.
Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD) issued a circular in this regard yesterday.
