AL leader hacked dead

A local Awami League (AL) leader was hacked to death by assailants in Mirapara Bazar area under Bhadrabila union of Narail yesterday.
The deceased, Provash Roy, was the president of the Bhadrabila union unit of AL and also the joint secretary of the local unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad.
Police acted swiftly after the incident and arrested five suspects in connection.
According to police sources and the local people, a group of assailants swooped on Roy and hacked him indiscriminately while he was sitting in front of a tea stall at Mirapara Bazar around 8:30pm.
He succumbed to injuries after being rushed to the Jessore Medical College Hospital around 10 pm.
Narail sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Delwar Hossain said five people, including Bhadrabila Union Parishad Chairman Shahidul Islam Mina and his son Ashiq, were arrested over the murder.
