32nd edition of Nat’l Street Theatre Festival begins

The 32nd edition of ‘National Street Theatre Festival’ (Jatiya Patho Natyotsab) has begun on Tuesday on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.
Eminent artist Rafiqun Nabi inaugurated the eight-day festival on Tuesday evening, while noted thespian Ramendu Majumdar, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote President Nasiruddin Yusuf Bacchu, Nader Choudhury were present, among others, at the inaugural ceremony. Presided over by Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation president Liaquat Ali Lucky, convener of the festival Chandan Reza delivered the welcome speech and Mir Jahid read out the declaration.
The festival began with a chorus rendition of the national anthem and placing flower wreaths at the altar of the Central Shaheed Minar. Artistes from different troupes performed patriotic songs at the event.
Besides, a cultural programme featuring discussion, dance, recitation and theatrical performance of ‘Jole Bhasa Padma’ by Natyadhara was held on the opening day.
Yesterday, on the second day of the festival, Theatre Arambag staged ‘Pholaphol Nimnochap’, Kheyali Natya Gosthi staged ‘Roktakta Falgun’, Teerthak staged ‘Najar Bondhi’, Muktalay Natyangan staged ‘Ghum’ and Natyajudhha staged ‘Buddhi’.
This year, a total of 40 theatre troupes from inside and outside Dhaka are participating in the ‘National Street Theatre Festival’. The festival will also be held in all eight divisions of the countries gradually in February.
As a part of the theatre movement of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, the festival has been taking place since 1986.
