Bangladesh will head to India to play the one-off Test after stepping into Test cricket in 2000. Although it is a17-year-long hiatus the head coach Chandika Hathurusingha like players and others look at it ‘positive’. Bangladesh will fly for India by a flight of US-Bangla Airlines at 10:50am today.
“The opportunity we got for the first time we go for Test match against India rather we look at positive that we got one game to play and that’s in mind we are taking the game,” said Chandika Hathurusingha yesterday.
Bangladesh batters did their improved batting performance in away condition especially in Test what they seek to maintain in India also. Sri Lanka-born coach hints it, and said that they will fight their best though it will be challenging for them.
“It will be challenging for batters especially. It’s not easy to mind set shift as well as shot selection,” Hathuruingha told newsmen at the media block of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
“We’ve a practice game before that (Test). We’ve some few practice sessions as well. So we’ll try to get used to as much as possible. But the thing is the most similar to Bangladesh. Hopefully we will probably fight well as much as possible,” he added.
When asked about target in India, the head coach categorically answered the question and said that they are confident of continuing their progress in Test cricket that they have been showcasing for the last few series.
“Obviously we want to win ideally,” he said, adding “But it is a tough place when you play cricket because they are really very very good at home their record says that. But we are confident that we will good bat. We have been improving in Test cricket as well.”
Drawing a comparison between Bangladesh and India’s spinning batteries, the coach said that they have experienced spinners like them in the squad to handle the batsmen.
“They have very good spinners. Experienced Ashwin, I think, he is number one spinner in the world at this stage in rankings. They have another two good spinners. That’s meant that our bowlers are not skillful,” he said.
“We have Shakib Al Hasan. He is so much experienced spinner. We have Miraz and Taijul Islam, who both done well in Test cricket. So I don’t say that we are in advantage but they are more experienced,” he also said.
“Nurul did really good job behind the stumps. He did not do anything wrong. But we feel that Liton Das is more good at batting. And he is good wicketkeeper as good as Sohan that many said before. That’s why he is in the squad,” the coach explained why Liton Das in lieu of Sohan in squad.
