While his presence was badly needed in terms of bolstering team’s strength and specially in Indian condition which suits his bowling style, Mustafizur Rahman is believed not to be confident enough about his fitness.
The physio however didn’t find any visible injury but the bowler himself wasn’t comfortable with his bowling, a thing many one inside the team believed his psychological problem. After a long injury and a tough operation at the very beginning of his career, such type of problem is natural, believed his teammates also.
It is also learnt the selectors prioritized Mustafizur’s desire to rest him since the bowler himself told them he still isn’t his comfort zone. Ahead of announcing the team, the selectors were seen talking to Mustafizur for a long time which also prompted them to defer the scheduled time of declaring the team. Chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu however didn’t reveal what Mustafizur exactly said but was in cautious mood while explaining as to why the pace sensation was rested.
“Even though he doesn’t have any problem medically, he still needs to work on his skill fitness. In Test cricket a bowler needs to send down many overs for which his body is not fully prepared,” said chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu.
It is also known Mustafizur said that with such feelings of discomfort, he can't play the vital Test match.
Nannu however said they don’t want to rush his return to the team in the longer version format. Mustafizur skipped the Test series in New Zealand after he developed a back pain alongside his hamstring injury, a thing that also played a vital role in inflicting a mental fear.
Since Bangladesh have a long international schedule coming up, the selectors wants him to prepare fully. As a test case, he will play the four-day match in Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), Nannu said.
Mustafizur is in the squad of Prime Bank South Zone who will take on Islami Bank East Zone in the second round of BCL match on February 4. The match will determine where he is standing now at the moment.
