Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia said police will take action against its members who were involved in the attack on two ATN News journalists after reviewing the investigation report.
He said, “The police force will not take responsibility for the crime committed by its members.” He made the remarks while responding to a query at a programme at Shahbagh yesterday marking the DMP's 42nd founding anniversary. The DMP chief also said that they had punished 400 policemen for various offences last year.
A group of policemen had assaulted ATN News cameraperson Abdul Alim and reporter Eshan Didar, when they were covering a police crackdown on a strike called by the National Oil, Gas and Ports Protection Committee at Shahbagh, on Thursday last. The probe committee formed to investigate the assault submitted its report on Wednesday, accusing nine policemen, including four police officers.
