Two policemen suffered injuries as miscreants hurled acid on them in front of Mitford Hospital in the old part of Dhaka early yesterday.
The incident occurred when a patrol team of police intercepted a motorbike in front of Mitford Hospital around 12:15am. The bikers fled the scene after throwing acid on them, duty officer Sub Inspector Abdus Salam of Bangshal Police Station told BSS.
Two policemen, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Nuruzzaman, and Constable Rafiqul Alam suffered injuries in the attack, he said.
Of the injured, Constable Rafiqul was rushed to Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with four per cent burns to his face while Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Nuruzzaman was admitted to Salimullah Medical College Hospital in the capital, SI Abdus Salam said.
Locals caught one of the miscreants and beat him mercilessly before handing him over to police.
The detained miscreant is now undergoing treatment at Pongu Hospital in the capital, he added.
Filing of case to this end is underway.
