Leaders of Ganatantrik Oikya Front, a platform of the members of the hajj agencies, yesterday strongly condemned the present leaders of HAAB ( Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh) for what they said embezzling Taka three crore.
They alleged that the present HAAB executive committee members realised Tk 1.92 crore unlawfully in the name of bank statements from 96,000 hajj pilgrims and Tk 1.05 crore for 3,500 hajj guides from hajj agencies last year.
They took additional Tk 200 from each of these pilgrims in the name of bank statements, while Tk 3,000 for hajj guides, the leaders alleged. They made the allegation during a meeting held at a hotel in the capital with its panel chief Abdus Sobhan Bhuiyan Hasan in the chair.
They also alleged that the present HAAB leaders have misappropriated Tk nine crore in the name of procuring land for HAAB Palli in Aminbazar.
They urged the Anti-Corruption Commission to conduct an investigation against the present HAAB leaders.
Among others, Bangladesh Hajj Passenger and Hajj Welfare Council president Alhaj Advocate Abdullah Al Naser, former HAAB presidents Jamal Uddin and Abdus Shakur, former HAAB secretary general MA Rashid Shah Samrat, former HAAB senior vice-president Syed Golam Sarwar, former HAAB vice-president Tajul Islam, Awami League leader Md Taslim, ATAB secretary general Aslam Khan and other former HAAB leaders also spoke at the meeting.
