6 get life term for killing, possessing illegal arms

Six people were sentenced to life term imprisonment in two districts yesterday.
In Habiganj, a court here yesterday sentenced five people to life term imprisonment for killing a schoolboy in 2009, reports UNB.
The lifers are Rony, Helal Uddin Turky, Akter Mia, Saddam and Niaz. Of them, Rony, Helal and Saddam were tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, the convicts used to demand money from their classmate Kaisar Ahmed Toukir, a class VIII student of Habiganj Government High School and son of Abdul Barik, a resident of Inatabad area in the district town.
On September 20, 2009, some of the convicts demanded Tk 5,000 from Toukir. As Toukir’s father came to know the matter he informed it to the parents of the convicts.
Being angered, Niaz called Toukir over phone to come to the school on September 24, 2009 where Rony and Helal stabbed Toukir indiscriminately, leaving him injured.
Later, he died on way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Abdul Barik, father of the victim, filed a case against 12 people. Police submitted chargehseet againt 13 people.
After examining the records and the witnesses, Habiganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Mafroza Parvin handed down the verdict acquitting eight other accused as allegation brought against them could not be proved. 
Our Chapainawabganj correspondent adds: A tribunal here has convicted a young man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment for possessing illegal arms.
The special court also fined the convict, Dulal Islam, 31, son of Anwar Islam, a resident of Binodpur Sabaritala village in Shibganj upazila, Tk 10,000.
According to the prosecution, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Dulal along with two foreign pistols, four magazines and 11 bullets from Chowdala Ferry ghat in Gomastapur upazila on July 22, 2013.
Later, a case was filed with Gomastapur Police Station under the Arms Act.
After examining records and witnesses, Judge Enamul Bari of Chapainawabganj Special Tribunal-1 handed down the verdict on Tuesday.
