Cops setting fire to Santal household

Law enforcers have to be morally better human beings than the average. They need to always act according to the law and must never take law in their own hand

We are not surprised at the news that the judicial probe led by the judicial magistrate of Gaibandha found involvement of members of police in the arson attack on Gaibandha’s Santal household in an effort to evict them from the place some days ago. The photos of the relevant members of police with torches in their hand setting fire to a Santal household already went viral in the social media.
We are also not surprised at the improbability of the event that police forces which are responsible for very law enforcement could do such a thing, because often we come about such preposterous thing done by the country’s law enforcers in the past. Even a few days ago, a local court awarded members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) capital punishment for sensational seven murders in Narayanganj as they acted as personal hit man. And the gruesome event of some police members gang-raping Yasmin is still fresh in our mind.
But what we are surprised at that such acts of evil are being committed by some members of the law enforcers off and on, but the government’s relevant authorities still could not plug the hole. Taking bribe by police is not acceptable, but they are setting fire to houses of a minority community or raping a helpless woman is a serious transgression. They are with the stick and gun of the government to protect life and property of citizens of all identities, not harming them in the darkness of the night.
While it must be mentioned that the persons who were involved in the crime of Gainbandha arson must be punished according to the seriousness of the crime, it should be pointed out here whether the recruiting and training authorities of fresh batches of police are doing their job perfectly. The duty of law enforcement should not be taken lightly. It is a very serious business for living an organized and civilized life. That is why the law enforcers have to be morally better human beings than the average. They need to always act according to the law and must never take law in their own hand.
Therefore, selection of people for law enforcement and their training is very vital and this has to be done with responsibility. Merit of a candidate rather than any other thing should be the sole criterion for selecting people for law enforcement. If it is compromised we will continue to hear outrageous things done by our police personnel.
