Curtain falls on Int’l Children’s Film Festival

The curtain came down on the 10th edition of ‘International Children’s Film Festival’ on Monday. Noted educationist Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed was present as chief guest at the closing ceremony of the festival at the Shawkat Osman Memorial Auditorium of Central Public Library, Shahbag in the capital.
Besides, president of Children’s Film Society of Bangladesh Professor Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, general secretary Munira Morshed Munni and festival director Abir Ferdous spoke at the event. This year, ‘The Puppet Show’ won the best film award, while the second best film is ‘Bakshobondi’ and third best film is ‘Alan Kurdi from Heaven’. The special awards went to ‘Enmeshed Boredom’ and ‘Inner Parallelism’. In the Children’s Filmmaking Section, Austrian film ‘In Memory’ won the award.
In addition, ‘At Eye Level’ from Germany won the award in the International Film Competition category. As the best short film, ‘Heidi at the Foley Artist’ received the award and Bulgarian filmmaker Hristo Simeonov has been awarded as the best director.
Moreover, ‘A Letter to God’ won the award in the category of Aged between 18-25 and ‘Khelaghar’ won the award in the category of Climate Change and Environment.
With the slogan ‘Future in frames’, the festival-- hosted by Children’s Film Society Bangladesh--took place from January 24 to 30 at the 11 venues of three divisional cities, including Dhaka. Among 600 submitted films, more than 200 selected films from 54 different countries were screened during the festival.
The main venue was Shawkat Osman Memorial Auditorium of Central Public Library, Shabag. Alliance Francaise De Dhaka, Goethe Institute, Daffodil University cooperated as venue partner. The shows were screened at four different times and all that were free for the children and guardian.
The most charming section of the festival was the Children’s Filmmaking Section, Bangladesh. As many as 21 films were selected for screening from 60 submissions. Five of the 21 selected films were awarded. Awarded films were chosen by the Jury board consists of 5 child film enthusiasts. For the first time Child Filmmaker Section-International had been launched. Professor Sekhar Mukherjee (India), Filmmaker Amitabh Reza, Professor Subrina Sultana were the jury of this section. Two more awards were given on Young Bangladeshi Talent and Social Film.
Other than Film screening, there were workshops on filmmaking and animation conducted by, Billie JD Porter, Amitabh Reza and Professor Sekhar Mukherjee. A special seminar on ‘Climate Change’ was hosted by Dr Towhida Rashid and Syed Muntasir Ridwan.
