Bangladesh women’s cricket team will fly for Colombo in Sri Lanka just after three days on February 3 to play the 2017 Qualifier of the ICC Women’s World Cup.

And so they spent a hectic schedule to take their best possible preparation for the event by holding two-time practice sessions in a day at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) ground at Mirpur. 
Along with that, they played two practice matches against Bangladesh Under-14 Boys’ team to hone their skills and techniques. Of them, the last match was held yesterday, where head coach David Capel, trainer Corey Bocking along with selector-turned-team manager Athar Ali Khan were present to witness it.
During a gap of the match, Athar Ali Khan said that they have set their first target is to reach the Super Six stage of the World Cup Qualifier.
“We want to move forward through the tournament step by step,” said Athar Ali Khan yesterday.
“But our primary target is to reach the Super Six stage of the World Cup Qualifier though the ultimate target is to go into the top four teams,” Khan told media at the NCA ground yesterday. 
While all qualifiers for the Super Sixes stage at the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2017 will gain ODI status for the next four years, the top four will qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 in England and Wales from June 24 to July 23, as well as the next ICC Women’s Championship.
Accepting the weakness of the team, the team manager said that they are focusing on improving the weakness as much as possible within the rest of the time. “We just take the charge of the team in August last year. The weakness the team has it is not possible to improve overnight. But we all are attempting to sort out the weakness and improve it gradually,” the former national player said.
“Our major concerns are batting and fielding. We need to be more consistent in batting to do fare well. With batting, we try to improve our fielding also. For this, we need some more times to work on these areas properly,” he also said.
“After the end of the Qualifier, we will get enough time. And then, we will work more comprehensively,” he added.  
Athar said that the plan we have formulated if we could execute it properly then the result will surely be well.
“We played a series against South Africa, where we had a positive result that we won a match against them. Just after the conclusion of the last ODI home series against South Africa, we have formulated our game plan,” the selector said.
Bangladesh pitted in the Group-B with South Africa, Pakistan, Scotland and Papua New Guinea. Group-A has been formed by India, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Thailand and the hosts Sri Lanka.
The Tigress will start their qualifier mission with a practice match that will be played against Ireland at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo on February 5.
But they will begin their main journey with Papua New Guinea at the Colombo Cricket Club Ground (CCCG) on February 7.
